DESIGN 9 AWARDS 2025

You're invited to submit your best residential projects to the Annual Design 9 Awards, Modern Luxury Interiors' signature competition celebrating design excellence across the country. Each year, we recognize top architects, interior designers, builders and landscape designers in ten regional markets, spotlighting the most exceptional work in luxury residential design.

IMPORTANT DATES

June 1, 2025 - Submissions open

August 8, 2025 - Submissions close 

November 2025 - All winners announced at The Design 9 event

November 2025 - All winners featured in Modern Luxury Interiors West Coast Volume 4: Design 9 issue.

FEES: 

• Early Bird Entry: $75 for all entries (within first 30 days only: June 1st - June 30th)
• Regular Pricing: $125 for 1st submission
• Additional Submissions: $90 for each additional entry
• All material required for a submission must be provided by the date and time when submissions close. Submissions that do not follow specifications will be disqualified without notice or refund.

GUIDELINES

• All times are expressed in U.S. Pacific time. If a date is the beginning or opening of a period, the deadline occurs at 12:00 a.m. on that day. If a date is the ending or closing of a period, the deadline occurs at 11:59 p.m. on that day.
• Entries must be submitted and received via the online entry system by 11:59 p.m. on August 8, 2025.
• Each project can only be entered into one house category. This includes the following categories: Best Vacation Home, Best Traditional Residence, Best Contemporary Residence, and Best Renovation.
• You can enter into the same project for multiple room categories. This includes the following: Best Kitchen, Best Bathroom, Best Primary Suite, Best Living Room and Best Outdoor Living Space
• Only residential projects are accepted.
• Awards will be made to the entire design team.
• Submissions can be made either by an individual or a firm.
• Submissions will only be considered for awards in the category for which they were submitted.
• All home submissions will then be considered for Modern Luxury Home of the Year.
• All images must be jpg. Low-resolution images need to be submitted. If you have a winning project, you will be contacted for high-resolution photography.
• A project description is required.
• All design projects must be located in California.

ELIGIBILITY

• Design, building, architecture and landscaping professionals in the U.S. are eligible to submit projects completed in California.
• Project submissions must have been completed between 2022 and 2025.
• We will accept submissions that have been previously published.
• Entries must be a completed space or project.

JUDGING

• Submissions will be scored and evaluated by a panel of Modern Luxury Interiors Editors-in-Chiefs and design ambassadors, who will determine the winners.

SUBMISSION SPECS

• Images
  • For the four home categories you must submit 10-20 images (jpg) and up to 10 megabytes and need to submit 1 floorplan (jpg or pdf).
  • For the five room categories you must submit 1-5 images (jpg) and up to 10 megabytes and need to submit 1 floorplan (jpg or pdf).
  • Images submitted may not contain watermarks and/or logos.
  • Image descriptions must include a caption and photographer credit.
• Entry Form
  • Must submit design statement up to 300 words.
  • Required to complete all entry forms.

WINNERS RECEIVE

• Featured editorially in Volume 4: The November Design 9 Issue.
• Promotion on modernluxury.com and Modern Luxury Interiors social media platforms.
• A prestigious Design 9 Award.
• Social media assets to promote their win.

GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS

• Entries will be disqualified if their submission infringes on any rights. By submitting, entrants grant Modern Luxury Media the right to publish their work in the print edition of the magazine, on modernluxury.com, affiliated websites, and social media platforms. Submissions may be reproduced in whole or in part for editorial and promotional use. 
• Entrants acknowledge that they have read and accepted the Modern Luxury Interiors Design 9 Awards guidelines. 
• All submissions are final and non-refundable. Entries that fail to meet the specified guidelines will be disqualified, and no refunds will be issued.

  • The Design 9 award will go to the entire design team of the winning project including the architect, builder, interior designer and landscape designer.

  • The Modern Luxury Interiors Home of the Year is a prestigious award selected from the winners of four categories: Best Vacation Home, Best Traditional Residence, Best Contemporary Residence, and Best Renovation. One standout project will be chosen from these category winners and honored at the Design 9 Awards event.
• What if I am a New York Designer and I have a project in Palm Beach? (ex)
  • Projects must be submitted to the Design 9 region in which they are located, regardless of where the designer is based.
